slimer questions

i am failry new to SPS, and have kept a green digi that is doign very good for abotu 2 months now

yesterday at our reef club meet, i traded for 2 more digid (orange and purple) and bought a slimer frag

it is about 3.5 inches tall, with branches out abotu 3 inches, it is in the shape of a menhora(SP?)

the way it is in my 29, is high flow high lighitng, it is about 3 inches down from the surface under a 150 DE 20K bulb

my question is, part of it is not exposed to the light as much, it is near the back wall, so it is at the end of the light coverage form the MH on the top corners, there is a shadow, the slimer is in direct light, with abotu 3 inches before shadow, it opened up under actinics yesterday, but i was not home to see it open under the halide, and it is open now under actinics, except the back

if the back does not get light, will it harm the whole frag?

sry for the essay!

TIA

yes and no?it will usually not kill the area not getting light but sometimes they will loose tissue in such areas.usually the area of the acro not getting direct lighting will just loose its color or turn brown or some other darker color .

It could very easyily in time lose tissue in the shaded areas...got a pic..? Would help us better with an educated anwser....But I do agree with the above poster...

One thing here is also true...a real green slimmer is one of the toughest most forgiving acros out there! These things are tough! I've run experiments on purposly letting green slimmers adapt to extemely low light just to see how they did...lost alot of color and PE, but did incredibly good for months in low low light....now I sure don't recommend low light...I got my huge colony of Green slimmer up high under radiums....grows faster with more light...

ok, thanks, my camera cant get a good pic of it, but i need moe superglue gel, or ill get soem marineepoxy, ill move it a few inches forward on the rock

the rubble it is mounted on fit perfectly in the spot, but i think id like it forward more, so the lunars will hit it, and it will get covered by light

thanks for the quick responses!

tank has been up 2 years in september

it has only been reef for about 6 months now though, i already when through my phases, softies, to LPS to SPS, and i have never lost a coral!

Sound cool!

Just making sure your system has aged properly to successfully keep the more delicate, but most wonderful acro species!

yep!

i normally hate reading, but when it comes to reef stuff, i can read and do reasearch for hours.

Reefing has been a huge happy blessing on me and my households life!

There must be a Creator of all this beauty!!!!

yea, it keeps me out of trouble... sometimes

it can be stressful too though, 90% of the time its amazing, its that 10% of the stressful times that are hard

The stressful times are the times when we learn stuff about this hobby and how to expand our knowledge. That's why I love this forum site because we all share ideas and thoughts to become better at reefkeeping....wow...I'm gonna go hug a tree! LOL!
