Small Macro Tanks - Anyone Try?

I have been unable to get macro algaes to grow in my main tank (I have tried everything LA sells) so I was thinking of using one of my 20 gallon long tanks to try and grow some macro. I imagine I would just need the tank, heater, powerhead, cover, some rock and sand, and a grow light. I might put a small fish or two in and perhaps a shrimp (coral banded) or a couple of crabs. It seems I could get by with 5 gallon water changes every month or two for nutrient management.

This should handle 6-8 macro algaes and a mushroom or two.

If the algaes did ok, I might try transplanting some into the main tank (the ones my two tangs might not eat).

Do people do small macro tanks like this? Is it worth the effort and will it work. Am I overlooking anything?

Thanks.

Yep, it'll work fine and I think worth the effort. Try to choose/place your powerhead in such a way that pieces of macro don't clog it up. Other than that piece of cake, I love the 20l tank, promised myself only one tank this time, but if I could I'd set up a freaking rack of 20ls! Oh, and LAreefs stuff (lately at least) seems to tend towards the uncommon and slow growing stuff, which may be a reason that it hasn't done well.
