small maxima

i've had a small maxima since spring. i had it under 6x65 watt pc lights and it didn't grow much. so now i changed tanks now and switched to a 250 watt MH light, the clam seems happier now.

so should i target feed it? i haven't been, then i tried it with the clam, hammer, tube anenome and goni i had. well brown jelly attacked and killed my goni and almost my hammer. the hammer survived and formed new heads. so i'm leary about target feeding, i also heard you can clog the tube in a clam by target feeding.

so what should i do??

also, i have some kind of tube worm or something that grew on my clam, should i remove it? maybe 1/8" diameter, white hard type shell.

if the clam is growing now then you my not need to feed it.but you can if you want . i would just add a little to the tank, about 1/4 of what they recommend on the bottle. the thing on the side of the clam is most likely a vermetid snail, ugly but harmless.

actually, i was looking at that thing attached last night, it's letting out like a spider web to catch stuff, then retracts it to eat what it caught, what is it??

no kidding, you guys are excellent, maybe harmless, but i don't like it, i'll try and remove it sometime next week.

use DT for the whole tank.

i have been using DT's recently to the tank. along with some liquid life, i just add it to the sump near the pump and allow it to distribute itself.

the clam looks much happier under the halide, opens more and i can clearly see it's mouth and tube again. i want to move to a higher K bulb though, either a hamilton 14k or a xm 20k. that will bring out the purple more.

my clam is only about 1.5-1.75" right now, so target feeding isn't necessary?

Aww...poor little guy...I can make out some of the pattern on the bottom right mantle...I think he wants to look a lot like mine () : )

Mine has been under 14K since he got to the LFS from ORA...and he looks pretty good IMO.
I'd let yours soak up some big time light before you switched to a higher K though, specially if you decide not to bowl feed him.

Cheers,

P.S. the easiest way to deal with a vermatid is to glue/epoxy over it, though then it's still on your clam so that might not be the best thing to do in this instance () : )
