Small schooling fish , why do we see so few?

Well there are a lot of cardinals available in lists. The reason you do not see them in shops is people do not really ask for them to often, and also as they are still subject to mucho shipping costs they are never going to be as super cheap as say neons, so a school of 10 is a considerable expense.

I saw some similar to the ones with the red caudal spot at a LFS, so perhaps they are catching on.

I´m putting 11 Apogon leptacanthus (ghost ou threadfin cardinals, I believe) in my tank. I already have a 4 lyretail anthias harem.
From what I researched, these fish will school at all times (or close to), are very peacefull with each other and one of the best choices for a school.
They will arrive next month, to be follwed by 5-6 weeks quarantine. If all goes well they´ll be in the tank in late October.

agree nice school of 12-15 small fish would be appealing.
chromis get large 4+ and unless the tank is huge won't have the same effect if they even have stayed together over the years through their pecking order.

the ones in the top pic are cool. most cards are nocturnal and prefer dim lighting..however, the ones in the pic seem to be out and about..perhaps their temperment can change.

here's the link to what they are. Apogon parvulus

nope.. best option probably to check to see if any of your LFS have seen them on any of their availability order lists.

Ugh ahahah thankyou so much for finding their name :)

People dont load their tanks up w/ schools because they take up the bioload of the tank and then you cant add anything else

there's only so much room and water quality --
I hate not having enough room for all the fish I'd like and I own a 75g ... even if I had a 240 I still couldnt be able to

Those are fairly small , i could put 4 in for what my purple tang doodies in a day . minus my 2 clowns , aussie wrasse ( alough wont sell that one ) and ill keep my fire fish and i can ditch my chromis .

i bet i could put 12 in there , it says 1.5 on the page but in all the tanks in japan ive had translated it says they have only been getting 1 inch

I saw about a hundred in a Los Angeles wholesalers tank a few weeks ago so perhaps they are catching on.

a fairly local place just sold a group of them last week.
he says, they are not available too often. Most of them go to the Japanese market.
