Small wave maker for Fluval Spec V

Any recommendations for a small pump and controller for this size tank? Looking to try to create a gentle wave action in this reef tank.

What about a Jebao pp4? On lowest setting and wave action it may be small enough. What do you have in the tank currently?

Go with the Jebao sw2.
I currently have it in my 14g Biocube and I can use every setting on it. The max setting will move sand a little. Perfect for smaller tanks.

A friend has the pp4 and I can go to a lower setting than him.

Looks like the sw2 and pp4 are rated the same flow rates? 500l-4000l. I think the sw2 might be a bit smaller though.

When I had my Spec V I ran an MP10 on practically the lowest setting on pulse mode. It was great cause my clowns got to ride the waves, my BTA loved the motion and none of the wasted food and crud settled, instead it went into my overflow (It was BB).
Granted I had this laying around so it made sense. But if you have it, it worked well

Not exactly the 6040 but the older 6105, tunze makes great controllable pumps and I always recommend them and vortechs. But if budget is an issue, the Jebao cannot be beat.

the sw2 should be noticeably smaller. about the size of a golf ball. has better magnets and same power almost as the rw4/pp4.

Given that my tank is only 5 gallons, I want to create a gentle wave or flow that doesn't blow sand around. At the lowest flow, the SW2 is 132 g/h, MP10 is 200 g/h, and the Tunze 6040 is 50 g/h. I like the ability to dial down the flow below 100 g/h and the low profile of the Tunzi. The MP10 doesn't allow for adjusting the direction of flow, so that's not an option. SW2 seems good but just worried about too much flow.

I use an MP10, running at about the lowest speed in my 6 gallon tank. Nice flow without moving sand at all. At about 25% some surface sand begins to migrate. The separated power and prop keeps interior space use to a minimum. Goo fit here.

I do like the idea of the motor outside of the tank for the MP10 to prevent heating up the water. There is a guy selling the MP10 ES for $100. Is that a decent price?

Just looked more into, you are right. Pics of it by itself was hard to see the size but one forum had them side by side, WOW. Wish I got this instead of my PP4.......

$100 is about right. Is it just an ES or wES?

With the size of the SW2 or 6040, it's not a huge issue. Also the dry side of the MP10 does getting pretty warm depending on usage, when it was on my BC29, it was nice and toasty lol

Well, I bought the SW2 and have had it for a few days in the tank. The MP10 is nice but the fact that it can't be pointed a particular direction ruled it out for this application. After playing the modes and various settings the only use able mode for me is W1 at the slowest speed and slowest frequency. This moves the least amount of water which is just right my tiny tank. All other modes are way too powerful.

I was going to buy the MP10 for my 20 gallon but someone else bought it before me. It was an older version so no great loss.

I found I can use the else setting in my 28 gallon if I direct it at a rock. Otherwise I use w1 at speed 3

These are neat little tanks!I had one before I upgraded to a 18 gallon. It is setup great for a little reef tank. The dimensions make it feel a lot larger than 5 gallons.

I would be a little concerned about a wave maker. These tanks have very thin glass. I'm not saying don't try one out, but just be looking for any small cracks or leaks
