Smasher or Spearer?

I prefer keeping the spearer, since it doesnt kill the cleaning crew the tank looks nicer with less effort on my part. The smashers have awesome colors and come in "hobbiest-friendly" sizes - not too big not too small, so you can choose one that fits your setup best.

My wife would prefer smashers, I believe, since she loves fish and is always... dismayed ... whenever my mantis kills off another fish. She actually finds it funny when my mantis *thwacks* a hermit and sends it flying across the tank, but who's to say she'd find it amusing when she eats them; although in the past, she has in fact eaten a couple hermits who were annoying her burrow area.
Personally, I love spearers...I find them fascinating and in a way quite elegant, having such a precise, clean-striking bladed armament found in nature. I've always been more of a fan of swords than warhammers

I've never kept a spearer, but have seen plenty vids of em. I prefer smasher. As twisted as it may seem, for the brutality of it. Seeing a smasher whacking at its meal amuses me...whereas it seems like with a spearer, the attack is over in a flash. I've been able to keep a couple damsels with mine for a few weeks now, I doubt they would've lasted that long with a spearer.

Indeed! My peacock wakes me up every once in a while around 4am! His tank is right next to my bed and he will go at it for a few minutes before I can go back to sleep.
I have never had a spearer but from what I have seen of them I would say that I prefer smashers.
