Smith's Blenny

just added a Smith's Blenny (Meiacanthus Smithi) to my 20L mantis reef, awesome little fish, seems to be doing quite well!

i have been very pleased with my purchase. he is eating mysis and hunting pods, stays active in the water column. Also sleeps in a rather peculiar situation, tucked up vertically against the glass in a corner!will be sure to post some pics

I'm thinking about getting a Smith's Blenny for my 28, its currently home to a chalk basslet and a cleaner, future stock will be a pair of clowns when I find the right ones. My only concern is if the serranus bullies the blenny at all he may meet a pair of fangs and I've had him for too long to see that happen

he is doing terrific!loves flake, very active in the water column, and he seems to hold his own against the mantis (he often flares up his fins, but never does more than that) i think he would be a great addition to be honest..i wouldn't really worry about the fangs, from what ive read, its an extreme defense mechanism (not just provoked by a little chasing) i think he would need to feel his life was truly threatened in order to use em. youd be taking a chance, a slim one in my opinion, as hes nibbled at my finger (more than once actually) as i was breaking up flake to put in, and i didnt feel a thing! HTH

I have one also in a 100 gallon corner tank, sleeps vertical in the corner also, real buddies with my pair of midnight clowns. I introduced a trio of flame angels about 7 monthes after "Lenny the Disco Blenny" The male angel is very territorial and harrasses "Lenny" a lot. Lenny must be very easy going because if I got harrassed like Lenny does I would bite him!

oh i miss my smith's blenny so much! the way he swam was so fun to watch. He always slept wedged up in the front corner of the tank. i accidentally killed him with my mag float (crushed) while cleaning the tank when the lights went off, so sad.
