I know I already posted today so I am sorry but I am so confuse.

everyone knows what Astrea snails are right? the snails sold to take care of all your algae needs?

well I just so happened to look at my tank earlier today and boom there it was one astrea on top of the other and I was like what the heck that is weird. well I noticed a little later that day that the one did not move. so I reached down in the tank and BOOM!! the other snail was eaten out of his shell and all that was left was the little suction cup thingy (scientific term) that they use to eat and attach with I am assuming the mouth.

Do I have a cannibal Astrea snail?

Snails are opportunistic feeders. They will eat just about anything that dies in the tank. Including other snails. Chances are the victim was already dead.
If not, Just be careful when putting your hands in....

There are a variety of somewhat common predatory snails that look very similar to some common cleanup crew members. For example, juvenile mud whelks look like nassarius vibex. Some of these predators feed exclusively on other snails. If you have personally witnessed a snail eating another snail, I would remove the offender. If wasting a snail bothers you, at least do some research and confirm the identity.

Among the lamellibranch bivalves, the most depraved of the whole sub-species is the whelk. Even more depraved than the limpet, which has been called the randiest of all gastropods.

Somehow it doesn't surprise me that you are an expert on whelks.
