Snail Egg Larvae

Here is a neat shot of a snail egg case on the front tank glass of my fuge. It's about the size of a BB, but you can see the snail larvae inside the case. With the naked eye, this looks like a flat white spot on the glass. I don't know what kind of snail laid the eggs, but I have lots of different baby snails in the fuge, ceriths, turbos, nerites, etc.

That is awesome! Thanks for sharing it. If you have time I would love to see pics of the progress. What kind of camera and lense did you use to shoot that?

Here is a shot from tonight. Doesn't look like much of a change from yesterday's picture. I'll keep shooting pics and post when there is a change or if they hatched while I was at work.

THB, I'm using a Nikon D70 w/reversed 90mm macro lens, T5 lighting.

What does that mean 'reversed 90mm lens"?

Hehe..."reversed 90mm lens" means that I mounted the lens backwards on the camera! This allows you to get more magnification, but you lose the auto functions of the camera.

Yup. It's called a lens reversing ring...about $15-25. Basically, one side has the camera mount and the orther side is threaded to screw onto the lens like a filter.

Thanks BeakerBob...so you are basically using a normal zoom lens and by reversing it acts as a macro lens.

Cool;

Well, I wasn't paying much attention to it during the holidays, except that I noticed a lot more of these egg sacks adhering to the glass in my tank. Here is the last picture I took:

I don't know if they hatched out or if the middle part just detached. I can't see inside of the middle portion where the small snails were forming in the past pictures. Is anyone aware of how they come out of the egg sack?

In any event, I just swapped out the tank with a larger one yesterday. I will have to wait for some more snails to lay their eggs and I will try to follow a bit more closely.
