Snail ID please

Hi,

Friend brought me this. He didn't know what it was and neither did the LFS guy. So he thought it would be a good idea for me to put it into my tank....I know. Figured it was harmless though. It is about two inches tall. Figure this will be an easy one for someone smarter than me.

I wanna say Astraea, but 2 inches tall? I'm not sure they can get that big. Maybe post some different pics. Atleast one showing the shell opening ( aperture ), and the little circular piece theat covers the hole ( operculum ). Here's an article to read. http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2004-05/rs/index.php

Just browsing the article perhaps what you have is trochus, the pics should help with id.

I have one in my tank my LFS sells them as a turbo snail.

From reading the article it is definately a Trochus of some sort. Does anyone know of a good resource to identify the various types of Trochus commonly available in the aquarium trade? I am just curious how big these fella's get.

Check the links in the article. Knowing the exact species name would help alot.

I think that might be an Indonesian Turban Snail.

I think I have an id on your snail, Tectus spp. Up to 3 inches long and wide.
