These started popping up in my display at night recently. They are about the size of a pencil eraser. Not sure if they are juveniles or adults. Only snails I have put in the tank recently are turbo snails and black footed trochus snails. They dont really look like juveniles of either to me. They seem to stay on the glass until the main lights come on and then disappear. Haven't seen whether they go into the rock work or the sand though. Thanks for any help with an ID.

Those are collonista snails. They are harmless nocturnal grazers and reproduce in our systems.

Yup. Some of the snails we call Collonistas are actually Homalopoma species, but they are in the same subfamily. They're all handy little grazers.

Cheers,

Don

Adult sizes range from about 2mm on the smaller species to around 6mm on the larger ones. The ones that show up in tanks most often are adult at 4 to 5mm.

Don
