snail issue with seios

I recently switched out my seio 620's for some 1100's in my 38 gallon. Now i'm pushing around 60x for my tank. it's mostly sps with the exception of some zoo's. however, since the 1100's have gone in, i seem to find my strombus snails stuck in the intake every morning and they are usually dead. do any of you guys have this problem? I use that mod for my seio's to run like tunze's. any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Haven't done this, but I thought about using the bottom casing piece, removed for this mod. If you cut off the bottom plate, where the flow director fits, the remaining piece can be fitted to guard the intakes without restricting flow.

Cut here :

Yes I had the same problem. There is this ring that runs around the part that sticks out, you can turn this ring one way or another to increace or decreace the flow, put it back on. Mine took out certh snails because they would get stuck in the one bigger hole in the bottom without the ring.

Things get stuck in those slots too(you're not supposed to take the turnable plate off for the mod)....i've been wondering about this as well.

highlander....cut at the line and stick the grated piece on over the output........................AWESOME...THANK YOU!(its amazing what is in front of your eyes but you can't see it!)

Big thing is to not try and throttle back the flow. Keep the adjustable flow restrictor full open. If you shut it down and some of them are closed or partially closed it's like using the pointy adapter on your vacume, it sucks harder from a smaller area.

Yea, problem is, I thought of this after I threw those pieces out !!

As suggested, just remove the flow adjusting ring and let it run wide open. I run two 820's this way and haven't lost a snail yet. (And yes, they do get on my Seio's all the time :) )

what collects? Nothing ever collects on mine except when I prune caulerpa in the display and pieces get loose.

what collects? Nothing ever collects on mine ......

Nothing has ever collected in mine either (except a stray piece of bubble algae that got away from me & was blowing around)

That would be some serious sucking action........and to think, some people think Seio's don't move enough water :D

i have 3 seio 2600s in my 120 and it doesnt feel like it moves as much water as an 800gph powerhead that i have in the sump to blow the detritus around for the skimmer to pick up..
it may be the fact that the 800gph output has a smaller opening so its a stronger jet..

Mine took out certh snails
Mine collected a sick purple tang
Mine took the life of a twin spot goby

No doubt there is at least one attorney here looking for a case, so before I get into trouble.................

Snails depicted above are trained professionals. Please do NOT allow your snails to attempt this maneuver as serious injury or death may occur.

I've got the 2600, it suck's snail's right out of their shells. I used a plastic grate for craft's to wrap around the intake.
