Also, I should say that I havent hooked the reactors up on my new tank yet (about 8 weeks in)... I'm monitoring the phosphate level closely, and will wait until it begins to rise to hook it up. I run carbon all the time though. There's nothing better than crystal clear water
Well I don't have the answer. I just had my first snail death after 4 months. I was going to move it to another tank and when I picked it up it just fell apart and stunk like crazy.

In my opinion... I like the clarity carbon gives the water, and will always run it. You also do not necessarily need a "phosban" reactor to run the carbon media in, however I like the upflow principle the reactor utilizes..

Several types of snails can't flip over and will die if they get stuck upside down. Is this what happend? depending on how old it was when you got it could also have been natural causes.
I agree with drparker... It more than likely was of natural causes... I believe certain types of turbo snails have a lifespan of only 6 months once removed from the wild.
Originally posted by scoobyalty Without a reactor for the carbon what would be the best way to utilize it?
In a filter bag in your sump between baffles. But this is very inefficient as water takes the path of least resistance. Which is around the bag and not through it. So the carbon on the outside edges work but the carbon in the middle of the bag is not very effective.
Right on so try to find another phosban reactor and go with both phospate and carbon fills. Will I be able to run both of the reactors with the same Maxijet 400?
