Snails / Hermits

So I was at the LFS a few weeks back and i was told that blue leg hermits were a great addition to a CUC. Now that i have added them most of my snails have been wiped out. I expected that but can hermits alone cut it for a CUC? I still have the "new tank syndrom" with the diatoms and i dont see them doing much to that.

I'm thinking of either getting a Diamond Goby or something similar or maybe i just need more hermits? Its a 60g cube and i have about 20 hermits in there.

you probably want more snails then. And some empty shells for hermits so they dont get wiped out again. and extra food for hermits

The general idea is 3-5 empty shells per hermit as they like to trade up a lot. I had 5 hermits and 50 shells and never lost a snail! Be sure to feed them as well to deter them from hunting for snails for food...

Well then I have been doing it wrong then. Haha. Ill grab some empty shells and some more snails when I'm at the LFS today. Thanks for the advice.
