snails on my clam

I've had a gigas clam for abt 7-8 mos and i also have 3 crocea clams purchased b4 the gigas. 2 days ago the gigas clam wasn't opening fully. i picked it up and i found a lot of small snails on the bottom. how do i know if they are harmful? what's the best way to remove them?

if they are cone shaped snails this is bad, take the clams out and scrub them with a toothbrush real well every day for a few weeks, keep a close eye on them at night when lights are off because that is when the snails will move to the top of the clam and feed on the clam. just keep doing this and you should be just fine. good luck.

those small snails are pest. use a twicer to remove them. It might take a few days before you can totally remove them all.

I pulled the clam out and cleaned it but the clam hasn't opened yet. it's still alive. will it recover? How much damage do the snails do?

the snails can kill the clam.

about an hour or 2 after lights out remove the clam and brush the shell. do this every other day for 2 months. brush the shell even if you dont see any snails, this will remove any egg sacks or tiny snails. then you can slow down to once a week for another month. then just keep an eye on the clam
