Snails

Hello all,

I have my tank up and running and recently placed 6 snails in my tank. Nothing else in there yet (fish wise). I have LR/LS. As soon as I placed the snails in the tank they died. Never came out of there shells. Any ideas of what might have happened.

what are your parameters? nitrate, nitrite, ammonia? did you cycle already? how long has the tank been set up?

Were the snails in a bag that contained water when you aquired them? Did you acclimate them?

I acclimated them for 30 minutes. My tank has been up and running for a couple of weeks. I have noticed an increase in algae on my sand bed lately.

Have you tested for nitrate etc..?

I think snails can easliy get osmotic shock from the change in salinity. You may consider drip acclimating them or you can pour 20/30 ml every 10 minutes for 2 hours or so, I've never had problems either way. Best of luck to you.

I would wage a bet that they were killed by the osmotic shock.

I tell you what, I am not happy with my RS80 at all as of yet. The thing isnt working. No bubbles inside the chamber and have had no foam so far. The tank is established and nothing. I contacted the company and thought they were sending over a new magnet. Supposedly that might be the problem. Hopefully that is the problem. I spent a lot of money on this and will be very disappointed if it doesnt work.

First things first, lol, what are your salinity, temperature, ammonia and nitrate readings?

Temp is 78 and my salinity was 1.24

Like others I'm betting it was the acclimation. I'd drip in the future.

the airline is clear...no clogs anywhere.
