snails

Hey I bought some snails on sunday....yesterday I moved my rock around moved the snails to the side of the tank....then I moved them back on the sand/rock...I get up this morning and they haven't even MOVED...could they be dead?:eek1:

Are they still upright? I wouldn't worry too much. You could always pick 1 up and smell it. Be warned though. A dead snail is about the worse smell on earth. When I first started the hobby, I picked up a snail for the smell test. The smell was so horrific I allmost fell off the ladder. I'm short so I need a ladder to reach the bottom lol

how long would they have to be dead? I just got them sunday...thought they would get all of the damn red slime on my sand and tank sides....but they just "sit"there!!!

and yes they are still upright...do they fall over when they die?

You can pick one up and tap (lightly) it's foot. If it retracts it's still in the game....I agree on the smell though...it's AWFUL if they are dead!!!!!

ok...the one I put on the sand last night...he doesn't stink but I don't think it is alive cause when I touched it..it felt dead...didn't retract...hey I am goin to take a pic of then can you tell me what kind of snails they are? Do you think the will take back the dead snail??

I would say that if it doesn't retract, even in the smallest measure, it's a gonner or close to being a stink bomb!

They're not going to get rid of your red slime, and they usually stay on your rockwork or glass. So, if your putting them on the sand DON'T.

ok...I know that I am sounding like a dummy...what what are "snail sifting snails" called? so these snails will get rid of the red slime on my tanks walls???

sorry to jack. but i have a snail question. when i used to have a FW tank i bought a snail to help clean. i just bought one, and then with in a month they were everywhere, i even would change the water get rid of all i could find and with in a few weeks it was the same thing again. my question is are the snails for SW like this also?
