ok well you know I have been cycling my tank for about 3 weeks....is this red slime normal? I have my rocks sitting in water with no PH or heater....I expected some die off....my trates are about 80...haven't taken them today...going to do a water change...I guess tha tis why I have the red slime aka cyano
Water change may help. You may want to check the level of your phosphates if it doesn't . You'll go through algae outbreaks and even though it's in eyesore just wait it out for now. Blow the cyno off the rock and finding some sand sifting snails or fish will help keeping it off your sand.
Thanks for the link pagojoe. I bought some of these labeled as "pyramid" snails at the LFS. I always wondered what they really were. The owner thought they came from the Phillipeans.
Compared to astreas and turbos (i've been through more than my share) these seem hardy and active. Plus, they can readily right themselves if they fall.
