Snails

I have been looking at different snail species to add to my tank. I already have Astrea and Black Turbo snails. I have had nassarius vibex and may get a few again. I am also thinking about Dwarf Cerith.

What kinds of snails have you liked the best? And where is a good place to get snails?

I have looked at ReefCleaners, Melev's Identification, liveaquaria.

Astrea are good snails but they cannot right themselves so sometimes they fall and die where they fell. Nassarius are good as well eating detritus and missed food items, but they are not very good at algae eating. Ceriths are a good all around snail. Also might try Nerite, there also pretty good algae eaters.

I have purchased a star snail, nerite, nassarius, florida cerith, emerald crab, lettuce nudibranch.

So far the most impressive are the nerite snails.

What snails will reproduce in the aquarium environment?

My nerite's and nass vibex snails both lay tons of eggs, although they get eaten by fish and misc other stuff pretty quick.

Check the link I provided earlier.

Graveyardworm,
That is a nice site you posted. Its just that for some reason my browser does not work with some of the links, some are duplicated, and some are missing entirely. And I wish they had pictures of each item they sold.

The site does have a great idea about captive breeding. I did not know if they did something special to get them to produce or not.

Well, it is about time for me to replenish my snails.

Some people have recommended trochus or turban snails. I don't know the difference but I am leaning towards the trochus although both are pricey to me.

I guess if they live longer then they would have paid for themselves.

Any first hand experience with either would be appreciated.

I love my trochus. He is a fast moving algea mower of doom.

I didn't like my ceriths at first, they kept burying themselves as they went down the glass and then would LOOK dead for half a day, but once I found out thats normal for them, and they are all alive, never been hermit food, etc, I like em.

I wish my stomatellas would hurry up and breed like the rabbits they are made out to be. IMO they are the best at all the cracks and nooks no normal snail can get to.

Do you have other inverts (crabs/shrimp/etc) that live longer?

If not I suspect copper could be leaching into the system somehow...
