hey everyone i just bought a snowflake eel its my second eel due to the fact previous one died in my skimmer pump so i just bought a second one from the lfs and was just wondering what is a healthy diet to feed him to make him grow nice and strong i am currently feeding him frozen squid and prawn and he eats twice a day any info would be great

you can try other good quality seafood - shrimp, scallops, clams

the most important thing you can do to keep a snowflake healthy is have a secure cover on your tank! I've had two in my life, many years ago, and both ended up dried up on the floor.

well i have a 250 watt retro fit with a big reflector on the lid it has on a inch on one side i dont think it will get out and all my pumps are on top flow water should i get the shrip and scallops from a local grocery store

You could be surprised by the eel's capacity to escaping from a tank, even if it look like impossible...

For the meal, you have to give only crude marine meat. And finally,IMO, twice a day is too much...one meal per two days is enough...if you overfeed, it can cause problems to your eel and result in a poor water quality.

Good chance with your eel, and feel free to post pics of her!:-)

Humm...don't know for the red fish, maybe a kind of grouper...But god, the radiata lion is just awsome!!!! I want one!!!!!!!lol

yes, get shrimp and scallops from the local grocery. I agree, feeding every couple of days rather than 2X per day is good.

well i decided to use a egg crate for lip and i have a q what kind of fish is the red fish in the movie with white face http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Dgb...feature=related

make sure the eel has plenty of cover, lots of rock and caves. if he is determined to get out, the egg crate may or may not contain him.

the red fish is very cool looking, not sure what it is, maybe a V-tailed grouper, Cephalopholis urodeta.

looks to me like the white face is head and lateral line erosion (HLLE) which can be due to nutrition or water quality issues. you probably know this, but goldfish shouldn't ever be fed to marine animals.

well he is in a cave that the huma huma cant get to him so hes fine he pops his head out and moves his mouth open and closed a million times and hides after that the huma huma killed my khole tang though tears

not sure, none of my tanks are covered well enough for a snowflake (which is why I don't keep them). Even my glass covered tanks have about an inch or two of a gap. I suppose glass with those plastic pieces that make the coverage complete. maybe some long-term snowflake keepers could chime in...

idn hes pretty fat and long i dont think he can get out with a egg crate and prob the the glass cover on it i mite try it

I would recommend going to the hardware store and getting some acrylic cut to size. Then when you get home you can cut out sections for your cords or any other cutouts you need to make. After my 18" snowflake committed suicide earlier this year that's what I did. Even though I have a canopy he still found a way to get out.

As long as you have it weighted it should work. The only thing about a screen that you may need to deal with is salt creep. I would think it would get really bad on a screen quickly.

:) I feed My Snowflake Eels Cut Shrimp fron Albertsons Five Bucks a Pound;) .I alternate with Krill and Lance Fish. But Really they Will accept Most Carnivore Food To Eat.:D
