So i decided that i wanted to drive in this storm and i hit 4 stores. lets just say the driving was interesting

coral reef: went here first and i was really impressed by the maxima clams from dr. mac, they still had quite a few and they all look great. frags i still cant find anything decent other than the sun corals, everything else looks pretty washed out. fish as always, some looked a little sick, some healthy.

aquarium adventure: half off livestock sale is going on, so of course most of the stuff is about normal pricing after the discount some of it is actually still more. also noticed a nice looking annularis angel that for a change was a steal at $100 after discount. they also had a nice looking chalice that after discount came out to a good price.

advanced aquatics: i used to come here a couple years ago for frags, they would have pretty decent sps selection and decent retail pricing. All i have to say is what happened? everything in the trough upfront was practically brown, they had a couple nice corals in the tank in front of the register but other than that this looked like coral reef a few years ago.

beyond the reef: i still dont see why so many people knock this place, pricing on dry goods is crazy but i only like this store for the fish. As always they had quite a nice variety of fish, they had 2 i have been looking to get but i decided to pass for now. Frags had nice color, nothing out of the ordinary but not bad. a couple of the clams looked great for the price($50-$60)

overall i would say i wont be back at advanced aquatics again, the others i will continue to visit. liked beyond the reef the best and will probably be back within the week to pick some fish.

No more shilling for these people~dc Best I have found so far. Went to beyond today and picked up a eagle eye frag.

EDIT~dc Before that they were actually farming their own corals in the back but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore. Their mission statement says says they are using state of the art aquaculture techniques but last time I checked that didn't mean buying bulk wholesale it ment actually growing corals and fragging them. Not really helping preserve the reefs...

No good or bad will be allowed~dc I was not really looking for corals because a good friend just hooked me up with a ton of frags and i dont have that much room in a 40 breeder. I like shotank a lot for my sps fix locally but with the weather i thought i did enough by making it as far as i did.

frankie, next time i want to buy corals ill head over to the place you told me, i can tell they are great people. For now im pretty set because i have quite a few nice frags, im about to switch salt mix and getting new bulbs so ill see how stuff reacts to the changes before buying new corals.

I used to go the EDIT~dc all the time for salt and food plus frags here and there but i will never step foot in that place. The way they take care of there livestock and the way they they alway expect you to buy something never can window shop. Plus the fact how they treated the people that helped them get that store running and looking so well. Id prefer to spend my money at Sea Schor or the new Corbin's in BUffalo Grove.

EDIT~dc But for the price they were a good deal. The best source for frags hands down is Uberfrags, John and Sissy have the coolest set up and Its great to visit people with a insane passion for the hobbie!

Why do owners not see the forest for the trees...They hire great people....store starts to do great....Owner trys to micromanage from a distance.....passionate Reefer that was running to store gets frustrated....Owner fires or runs off Passionate Reefer....Store crashes.... Over and Over......On the other hand, Is Corbins new store open yet?

This is my only warning, the next shilling or slamming of this company (pm me if you don't know who) will result in infractions.
