Ok I have had a pair of snowflake clowns for about a year, I haven't had any problems with them. then my femail decided to jump out of my tank one night and disapeard....until I found her all dried up like a chip. So now i had a male all alone ..... I went to my local lfs and told him I need another snowflake clown peferably a lager one so that it would be the femail. About a mounth or more went by before my lfs got my new snowflake clown. During this time my male clown was looking lonely but was doing great in all other way's as far as eating and just overal energy and appearance. Now when I interduced the new clown the male started nipping at it and they eventually stoped, as the larger new clown showed more dominance towards my male. As,the next cople of days went by my male started going in the back corner of my tank and seemed fine besides that ive never seen him act this way.....as the days went by he started not eating and almost seemed to rest in the corner ......anther day goes by and then he stated to seem to have no energy to swimm and over the next couple days, he passed away : (
now im back to 1 clown for no apparent reason. Its been 5 days since the loss still no other problems with any of my other fish (barnicle blenny, neon goby, yasha watchman goby, snowflake clown) .... So what do u think could have happend and what should I do now, get a new pair ....? Or get anothe small snoflake ?

hey bizzladin, sorry to hear about the fish problems. Honestly , I think what happened was your male got beat up at some point and got injured. It happens a lot of times when introducing new clown fish to eachother. Sometimes it works and other times it doesn't end well.. I've also learned the hard way that you MUST have something to atleast cover the perimeter of your tank several inches. It's a rare chance that a fish will jump, but when it does happen it SUUUCKS!!

Thank for the responce. Im thinking that the male started to change sex and was confused and got stressed to death.

Sorry for the loss. What has worked for me is to make sure my new clown is a small juvenile that was in a tank with other clowns in the store. Then you're pretty sure it's not female. I had had mine for years, so it was for sure female. From what I've read, they go juvi -> male -> female, and rarely if ever back. If by themselves they can turn female in a few weeks IIRC.
