snowflake vids

I love em ... I sooo want a pair of snowflakes and a pair of picasso (which of course my LFS just got in this week but I dont have a tank large enough for 2 pairs)

hello embryo guy. You have such great clowns and since you seem like such a fanatic for rare clowns, I was wondering if I could ask you a question.

Im about to order a pair of snowflakes as well and was wondering if you had some reference pictures of the ones with seperate bars and the all white body variety. Im not a premium member so no search privileges. I really like the helmet patterning on the head. But also the clown overall is very unique. It's quite amusing to think that something like this would have been eaten in nature or something to that effect.

Also, how is the personality of these ocellaris? Do you see any defects from captive breeding, i.e. a square or misaligned jaw? How is the orange on the body? is it the yellowish orange or are they developing a deeper, warmer orange like a red orangish color? Are they as hardy as your run of the mill ocellaris? How are their personalities? Im still kinda debating these or A. percula. I can only keep one pair and it's a tough choice.

casshern,

thank you for reply. ill try my best to answer some of your questions.

honestly. my fav. of all clowns is the onyx variety.

i purchased these snowflakes bec of the phenotypic irregular white bands/pattern. my hope is to create an F1 generation w/ an onyx and hopefully get a percentage of babies that resemble oras famous broodstock.

so my initial interest in the snowflakes was more for there genetics than what they actually look like. but within the past several months, i have to admit they are one of my fav. pairs. personality wise. they are excellant.

at the same time i have my jigsaw which not only has a great pattern but its wc and has the best personality of all my clowns. so personality wise, i think it simply might be an individual prob. but overall they are very strong, healthy swimmers. eat pretty much anything i give them. and there colors have continued to get better and better. you are correct, the hood over there eyes is the best feature :) to see it overtop is even better :)

keep in mind, im making judgement based on 2 snowflakes. ive talked to other snowflake clown owners and all adore there clowns but im not sure if its bec they are great clowns or we just paid alot for them and trying to justify it ! lol

as for pics. ive never seen another snowflake pair with seperated patterns as in mine. most have a dominant white 'blanket' over the dorsal area.

people forget that these babies are F1 generation babies just like any other clown baby in the wild. picassos/snowflalkes at this time atleast, are all F1 generation. so the prob. of defects is in parrallel with any wc clown.

so why do we see alot of genetic irregularities in captive clowns? my thinking is bec in the wild , nature selectively culls out these clowns, but in the captive market, its all about money and i think the breeders do not conciously cull out irregularities.

i use to bred /raise high end jap kois. the reason why japan has the best kois in the world is bec there breeders cull out 98% of there babies before they reach the market.

as for pics, click onto my website, you can see more pics of my clowns.

good luck with your purchase. i do not think you will be disappointed with the snowflakes if you decide obtain a pair.

ireef. honestly! i m very deligent when i want something. i have no more advantage than anyone else.

what i do is call all lfs in my area atleast once a week. constantly check reef central and other online forums for people selling or to get more info on other fish stores in the country.

information is priceless :) if you want something bad enough. the lfs will get it for you. it also just comes down to paying for it also. anyone can buy a pair of snowflakes.! but are they willing to pay several hundred for them. there definetly not cheap.

if you ask me are they worth the price. honestly i think definetly NOT! but thats the asking price, and if you want it you have to be willing to pay what the breeders want for it.

Well said, I don't think they are worth the prices they are asking for them.
