so I decided on a Profilux 3

after much research, reading the manuals, I think I will go with a profilux 3. However, I still have questions regarding the unit, if you don't mind to explain.
-What's the difference between a conventional powerbar and a digital powerbar? Does the digital power bar offer an advantage?
-If I purchase the Tunze controllable pumps, what other accessories besides the controller do I need to purchase in other to make the pump work? How many Tunze powerheads can the controller control?
- I am planning to use the profilux 3 to control a 6 modules AI LED system. Can the profilux control each module individually?
- also, can the profilux software coordinate between pump actions and lighting during a thunderstorm event? (like making the water more turbulent during a thunderstorm event)
Besides from lighting, I am also planning to use the profilux to control the following device:
-Tunze ATO system (TUNZE Osmolator Universal 3155)
- a calcium reactor (1 water intake pump + 1 mixing pump+CO2 regulator)
- a phosphate reactor pump
- a carbon reactor pump
- an air pump
- an ozonizer
- a skimmer
- 2 return pump
- 2 refugium lights
- possible 5 empty sockets for future equipment purchase
what do I need to purchase in order to make this transition?
Your website listed the controller as out of stock, how long before it will be available?

Hi

Welcome to the elite Profilux club :)

Tunze control - All you need is the Tunnze cables and port splitter cable if using more then one pump. So if you want to run two pumps you would require Tunze-1 Tunze-2 and YL2-1.

The profiLux 3 will soon be able to control 16 stream pumps and at present 8. The eventual software relases will enable unlimited amount of tunze control.

The diffeence between power bars.

Digital power bar = No amp monitoring of plug sockets and at present limited to 24 sockets but soon to rise with release of new firmware, but not limitless.

PAB Digital power bars = Amp monitoring of each plug socket, and unlimited socket expansion.

Ai = The light units are controlled together this is nothing GHL can do as it is down to the way the Ai units are wired together in daisy chain form. In regards to surges when storms are emitted, this already could exist but I need clarification, but I know it is coming if not already launched.

Tunze ATO will not co-ordinate with the Profilux, the GHL ProfiLux comes with the built in ability t do water cahnges, Auto top off, water level alarms, and various other features, this is all possible by adding the GHL level sensors.

You could redeuce your equipment level significantly by employing the balling method instead of having calcium reactors and kalk reactors, all you need is the GHL 3 pump doser and then you can lose all that exacess equipment, but we can talk about that as a seperate subject if you like.

So if you are wanting extra free sockets I would advise on

ProfiLux 3 (or 3EX) pack

then add
Tunze cables
splitters
water level sensors (1 if you jusr want ATO and 2 if you want auto water change as well)
Ai control cable
an additional power bar
Optional 3 pump doser if you want to get rid of Co2 bottles and two reactors.

Availability - If you go for the profiLux 3 EX with standard digital power bars we can ship today. This pack will appear on the site later today.

I googled up the balling method and it seems instead of the CO2 bottle I would need jugs of chemicals?
Could you explain more on the auto water change feature? what do I need to set up this feature?

Hi,

Balling is not exactly that no ;) Yes you have 3 containers each one has a different mineral salt in it and then you use the doser to accurately dose the exact amount of Ca, ALK and MG your tank needs, no more Co2 bottles, regulators, calcium reactors and Kalk stirrers and all the pumps that go with it.

80% of reefers in Europe use this method, the calcium reactor really is a very old method now. Here is the link to the manual

http://shop.faunamarin.de/media/content/Balling22.06JK.pdf

The Auto water change feature is really simple, you connect 2 GHL level sensors to the buillt in level port and set the controller to turn a pump on to empty water out of the tank, when the desired level has been reached which is set by the lower sensor the pump is turned on, at this point another pump is turned on to fill the tank back up to the level set by the upper sensor. The upper sensor can then also be used for auto top off also, so you have two uses for the upper sensor. You can also set a timed off period for emptying the tank so if in the event that a sensor went faulty it would not drain the tank, you have a set max on period which acts as a redundancy.

So all you need in GHL equipment is two sensors and the monting bracket :)

Not so much a ton of cash, profilux now starts at less than $499.00 and balling methods are cheaper to set up than a clacium reactor, co2 bottle, co2 solenoid, pumps, kalk reactor etc etc

;)

If you would like help finding a pack that suits your needs, please contact us and I will gladly assist ;)

I find 80% a bit over the top.

Balling is not great for large tanks as it uses up so much chemicals.

recife- if you are going to call a foul - you need to offer the proof that the poster is wrong. Otherwise - it is just plain ole' mud slinging!

And - have you actually used BOTH methods, - Ca reactor and Balling - and recorded the total costs for both? I would be interested in such data.
And - what do you qualify as a LARGE tank?
Lastly - can you break out separate chemical compounds from a Ca reactor - to make adjust ments in the tank chemistry, and Balling allows? Just curious......

Is there any profilux dealer in the States?
I called ReefConcept but their answering service is in French?

my profilux package arrived today. I got a few questions:
Does the 6 socket PAB powerbar usually come with the PAB cable supplied to connect to profilux controller? because my package does not have a PAB cable included with the powerbar.
The PAB socket looks similar like an ethernet socket. Can I use a CAT 5e cable as the PAB cable?

Hi

This is a shipping error all packs come with a PAB 2m cable. But the cable is standard cat5e ethernet though.

Please email your shipper to get your owed cable.

Hi

yes and in profiLux plus II

Utilising a level sensor you can set this to great a leak alarm if the level drop below a set point

If you want a moisture leak detector for the floor then you can source your own and use the PLM-ADIN card and open source to the profilux

How does one setup a calcium reactor with a profilux. Is there directions somewhere we can follow, as i cannot find it. (PH control etc).
