So, I got new Maxi Minis and I thought I should share

First off, I want to give some major props to Tidal Gardens. They sold me both of the maxi mini carpets I am about to show. They were very helpful and considerate. When I found the site, they had a blue one and a green one. Both were solid in color, just like I wanted. The price of the blue one was higher than the last blue one I had found, but not as bad as the very first one. Unfortunately, I had to discuss the newest price with my wife, and it was sold by the time I got back to it. Of course!

So I emailed, then CALLED (because I'm "persistent" on a good day) the store owner, and he called me back. He said he had another blue one he had recently propogated (YES!) and could sell me, as long as I understood I was not purchasing a healthy specimen. I opted to wait awhile, and when I felt it was safe, I emailed him to say that I was ready to purchase both. He quickly posted the blue one and emailed me to say it was on the site. Within half an hour, I had purchased both! At 1am I made the purchase. Later that day I had a tracking number!

The next day, I got this:

The heat pad was still slightly warm, thank goodness.

Here they are in the light of a standard office. At first the blue one didn't want to show, but as the light hit it:

And here's the green one:

And here they are acclimating!

I was slightly disappointed by the intensity of the blue one but here it is in the tank next to some blue clove polyps. I think it's actually my lighting that is disappointing me.

Next up is the green one:

I can't tell you how impressed I was with THIS guys color! The pictures don't do it justice. It looks in person to be a nice metallic green.

And, last but not least, both settled into my tank.

The colors in this pic are as true as it gets, shown under 2 white and 2 actinic VHOs. I am very happy with them so far, and in the next year I will be upgrading to better lights, so they will likely only look better with time. :)

Thanks for looking!

I just got one yesterday it's like a yellow and red color. Once the lights fully turn on I'll try and get a good pic with my cell phone.

Nice, I love being local to the place you got them. Very nice people and great livestock!

I couldn't agree more, lucky devil! ;)

And the fact that they are working hard to aquaculture their stock makes it even better because anything they have now, they will probably have again. My story is a perfect example of that. The last 3 times I found a blue maxi mini, it sold, and that was it. End of story, the trail went cold. Here, it sold and he had another in the works. I'm really glad I contacted him to find that out, or I'd still be hunting. AGAIN.

Very cool!

Yea I'm getting picky now that I've seen a few of them around. I really like the Haddoni carpets in their solid colors, but they take up too much room and are very prone to eating fish. These maxi minis have the same look but are comparatively safer.

Thanks!
Ya I agree I've been contemplating trying one as well but there size is scaring me off as well. Also I believe there light requirements are high and all I have are t5s. I was reading the maxi show odd thread and some people got some really nice ones from petco. I'll have to check my local petco out.

Beautiful maxis Brad. I have 4 and I love them, too.

BTW DashTrash, T-5s are high intensity and can grow anything, if anything you might need to acclimate your maxis for t-5s.

Thanks Gary. I really would love to get some Haddoni carpets as well, but I like gobies and tangs, etc. So that risk, plus the up-front cost of a blue and a red Haddoni, was out of my price range. So I'll just be getting, IDK, maybe 10 of these over the next few years? :)

nice find! I love maxis. Almost pulled the trigger on my third one today. Excited to see if that blue one gets more blue with time and size. Planning on propagating it? ;)

M3P, I'll need a few "test subjects" to try propogating before I take a knife to my prized possessions, however life is change, so maybe some day. But don't hold your breath. :)

I just recently sold a blue max and a green one. I didn't know anyone was looking for one. Sorry. As for not eating fish, I had 3 in my tank, and they took out 3 of my fish. Size of nem didn't matter. Then my carpet took out my yellow assessor. I didn't have a good week that week. Maxi's are pretty sharp.
