So if sps polyps are retracted ... that means what ?

So I have a flame in my reef for the past few weeks. All of a sudden, suddenly, completely out of the blue, several sps frags and colonies retracted their polyps starting w sun up, all the way til dusk. They still bring them out at night. Now I am not 100 sure if it's the angel, but assuming it is... does that lead to coral death or just "that polypless look" and they will still grow?

Fwiw I have not seen any nipping but things haven't changed in the tank other than that new fish about two weeks ago. Retraction started yesterday

Yep 99% it's the flame angel. It can still grow but won't do anywhere near as good.

At least the angel hasn't caused any coral deaths yet. IMO unless you have a tank full of coral to spread out the damage among many, your corals will start dying off.

Mine is in a 120 and does the cruise by nip...Noticed if I feed a little more he is lest apt to do it though..

Dived many times, never seen any wild acros to have extended polyps during the day.
