So I'm guessing he was hungry?

I have never been in the habit of feeding my three scolly's, but while getting ready to do my bi-weekly 15g water change I noticed this going on. I'm not sure if I should let it attempt to eat the fish or pull it out. IE... Wondering if the fella bit off more than he could chew. Is this normal for scolly's? Is this an indication that I should probably start feeding the poor fella? Any advice is helpful and thanks for reading and commenting.

I'd let him eat it since pulling it out at a late stage could cause internal damage to the scolly. Just curious, did it catch the fish or was it eating a dead fish?
I'd say it's certainly a sign the scolly wants to be fed. If it has bitten off more than he can chew it'll probably throw out the part it can't digest in about 24 hours. Looking on the bright side, you'll have a much bigger scolly after 2 days.

I am aware, but thought it was interesting. I believe the culprit is an emerald crab picking off the small fish. Scolly just taking advantage, imo. As far as the scolly goes, he's a happy full camper.

Obviously if the fish was dead to begin with it should be easy for certain corals to eat them but I once saw a video of a brain coral eating a blue damsel and this is the second time I'm seeing the same thing but with a scoly, so I thought maybe these corals can sometimes sting small fish badly enough to incapacitate them and thereby catch and eat them. I think if a fish is weak enough to go and land in a big LPS coral it could end up as dinner or am I wrong?

I just banished my EGC to the sump for eating fish and shrimp

i have a rather large purple long tentacle plate coral and last year he ate a mandrin in my tank ... the mandrin wasn't doing too well and i didn't see it until the plate had him halfway down so i'm assuming he landed on it and was too weak to escape ...
