SO my tank is leaking... thoughts on my next move?

the hole after the drilling:

and here is the back of the tank after plumbing was done:<a href="http://s1103.photobucket.com/user/devaji108/media/20150710_185750.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1103.photobucket.com/albums/g480/devaji108/20150710_185750.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 20150710_185750.jpg"/></a>

here is the pic of how much space there was around the bulk head:

That's waayyy too big. What's the diameter of the hole saw they sent you? Did you use the hole saw that glass holes sent you?

I threw away my hole saw but I measured my gasket and it's about 2 1/3rd inches. The hole saw should be about the same size.

I say the same thing. Size looks right. Is your gasket on the correct side. I always put the gasket on the inside of the tank.

Pictures look OK to me as well. The gasket is under the flange on the outside back of the tank, right? Cannot tell for sure from the photos. If so, did you scrape off some black paint so the gasket is against clean glass?

yeah I thought it was a little big to and yes I used there hole saw so I asume they know what there doing as a lot of ppl use them.

yeah the gasket is on the inside. I just went ahead and siliconed around the outside as you can see in the pics just incase as I thought the hole was so big. guess that did not help.

honestly it prob. not tightened enough, but i mean come on how is one suppose to know what is "right" they just say hand tight, as i did.
to tight you will crack the tank not tight it leaks.

I did go back and try to tighten it by hand its so very difficult i even tried to use some channel locks to try to get some what of a grip. the way the inside are not sure I will be able to even at 1/2 drained tank.

ooops my bad I mean the gasket is on the outside of the tank as you can see in the pic showing how big the hole is...

i always thought there should be 2 gaskets on each side of the bulk head. did they ever make em that way? that is what i was expecting.

so you think a thin layer of paint my cause a leek? interesting thought maybe but we are talking about a fraction of a mm...but hey it could be...

The Sch80 bulkheads typically came with dual gaskets, but the SCh40 typically did not. Two are unnecessary, really. As for the paint, maybe a factor, maybe not. Only one way to find out really . I always like clean glass under my gaskets.

Every time I had a mysterious leak around a bulkhead I figured it wasn't tight enough (usually because it was hard to get to). That never was the case, however. It was always a split bulkhead from tightening it too much. You won't notice the split even after you take it out unless you put some tension on it.

oh now I am confused on what side the gasket goes on. in my 75 RR it did go on the wet side . but if i remember right glass holes says it goes on the outside. not even sure there is room for it in the over flow.

The only hard and fast rule for a bulkhead is that the gasket goes right under the flange. Whether the flange/gasket is on the wet or dry side makes no difference. With many of the aftermarket siphon boxes, there's no room to get the bulkhead into the box, so you have to put the flange/gasket on the dry side.

Put an 'o' ring a size that squeezes over the male threaded make sure it's quite hard to roll over the threads and tighten it up. 👍
