So now what should I do?

Got a 5 head orange sun coral from reefs2Go on Fri. Since I hadn't seen it open yet I did the tubberware feeding bath thing last night using frozen cylopezees with not much success. There may have been a tentacle or two come out on one or two heads but that was it ...
So, what should I be considering next?

yes.

the coral needs to gain energy, and be sure there are no predators around, to open up. usually I have to do that for a week with new pieces ...

some pieces are soo bad in health that I have had to feed them like that for months before they opened by themselves fully.

just try to target feed what ever is open. also try Mysis shrimp.

Amino acid supplementation goes a long way too. there are research articles about corals needing AAs to be able to catch and feed on targets ... and since the only way they can get their AA fix is through feeding, you need to be sure to offer good quality fatty foods.

thx guys .... I guess I spoke too soon since when I got home yesterday all 5 heads were open so I fed them before going out to dinner .... hopefully they will be open again today when I get home ...

the ones i've gotten i've always put so i can get their tube to stick straight up as possible and turn off the pumps and lay food on them. i've also used the pellet food to fee them by dropping it in the top of the tube.

My sun corals usually don't open until about 7 p.m. They are pretty much night corals although people have trained them to come out during the day. They are not light sensitive, it is just what they do. And they need meaty foods like brine shrimp or small pieces of squid squid. Feed each polyp separately. I use a Julians Thing to feed mine inside the tank.

Understood. I modified a Julian's Thing to make it more versatile and workable and can target feed anything from mysis to cyclopeeze to any liquid food.

How often do you feed them?
