So What do Flame Angels Generally Nip at?

ReefWho?

I have a flame angel for half a year, and I got dendros 2 weeks ago. The flame left it alone until yesterday I saw it swim by and nip at it. Its done it a few times but it isn't constant. So I am hoping that it doesn't do any harm to it. And is there a way to stop it from doing things?

And if it were to really nip at it for long periods time it would be dead pretty fast right?

feed him real well, thats about the only thing you could do to influence choice to take a nibble now and again. Honestly I would stay away from pygmys all together if you have a reef. its not worth the nipping as they almost will ALWAYS DO.

I see thanks for the feed back really appreciate your advice. My dad really loves the Flame Angel so I can't do much about but if I can influence it to leave it alone than that be great.

I just got one for my reef tank. I have read that they may nip at SPS (hard corals) & some LPS. Like above, keep them well fed.
I only do softy corals & some LPS. I haven't seen him take any interests in any of my corals, as of yet.

I have a Flame Angel that has destroyed a Chalase, Favia, Acan and an Orange Digitada. But at the same time it has not messed with the 18 other corals in my tank. Some of these are Acans and Favias and Chalase. Go figure????????????

How odd, sorry to hear about your lost. Did your angel destroy those corals super fast or over a period of time?

The Digitada was fast about a day the others were a nip here and a nip there a few weeks I guess. I was hoping it would loose interest in them but no such luck.

For what its worth it was only interested in the new corals introduced after the flame was added.

My Flame Angel has been fine with all my softies and Yellow Polyps, which are a species of Zoanthid. I feed my fish very well. He was just under 2" when I got him about three months ago.

It is hit or miss from what I read. It seems LPS and clams are more likely to be picked on by them but each fish is different and may take a liking to anything. My Regal Angel did eat the Yellow Polyps so I know I will not have Zoas in my main display where he will eventually reside. That's fine with me though. I like the fish better than Zoas.

My Flame nips at my Xenia. It doesn't kill it, just slows down it's growth, which is fine.

I guess feeding really may help, but probably once it's developed a taste it will probably keep nipping. JMO

If you had one trained to eat zenia you could get rich renting it out to other reefers with zenia issues.

If only they were an easy fish to catch. I could rent it? I'm just kidding, I like the Xenia, but I like the fish better.
