So, what's the deal with dry sand out here? Any Southdown around?

I need sand for a 36g tank. I know, it isn't much, so if anyone gets a large amount of aragonite sand and wants to break off a little, lmk. Or, if you know where bags of SD can be purchased locally, also lmk.

Otherwise, I guess i'll have to spring for the arag-alive again.

thx,

hehe.. there was a similar post not too long ago, I'd say search but well... yanno.

You can't get SD locally unless someone has a few bags in their basement they want to get rid of. There was another alternative someone posted in it, unfortunately I don't know if that is available locally, I'd say spring for the pricy crap

Thanks, D-Rod.

It looks like someone mentioned that Yard Select was Aragonite. If I see it, i'll grab it. I'm not willing to use silica based sand on this, if I were going larger I might consider cutting more corners but for a 36g even the Arag-Alive stuff isn't too bad.

You can get SandTasTik (silica free white play sand = aragonite) sand from the Learning Center for $20 for 25 lbs. It's not a great price, but it's not so bad.

At those prices you are better off sticking to aquarium substrate. Shipping prices aside, here is what MD has for prices :

CS0930 CaribSea Aragamax Sugar-Sized Reef Sand 30 lbs * $18.90

CS0932 CaribSea Aragamax Oolitic Select Reef Sand 30 lbs * $21.90

granted shipping is $17 per bag **uugghh**, but makes me wonder if they would bulk ship it versus UPS ?

Well if you want some cheaper than LFS aragonite (full of critters and other crap [literlly])

No, I don't want used sand unless it is top-layer only. I don't want to bother cleaning it, and if you don't clean it then the benthic layers release a lot of crap into the water. I'll just go with aragalive, thanks tho:)
