Soak food in Topoff Water?

So I have realized that my Biocube 32 loses about 8oz of water due to evaporation per day. Right now I am manually topped by off twice a week.

Regarding feeding, I am soaking my Spectrum pellets in tank water and then dropping in.

My question is this. Can I just soak my food in a few oz of RODI every day and then dump it all into the tank, effectively combining the two tasks? I travel on business often and this would help me give my wife a simpler maintenance schedule.

Any harm to soaking the food in RODI and not tankwater?

Thanks.

I soak my pellet food in RODI so they don't automatically go down the overflow before anyone has had a chance to eat it. I use New Life Spectrum and although they are sinking pellets, it takes about a minute or so before they actually do. During that time they float around and go straight down the overflow. You should be fine.

John.. .Exactly what you said. When I do not soak the New Life Spectrum pellets about 75% of them go straight to the overflow even with the powerhead off.

I do this as well. Most of my pellets would make it into the tank without soaking...but usually a few will still end up down the overflower and into the filter sock.

Just easier if they're soaked for a few mins and drop immediately.
