hi,
looking for info on the Solana 34 gallon system, especially the skimmer- good/bad? I'm thinking of buying one and would love to hear feedback on the pluses/minuses of this system from anyone who has one .
thanks,
Don
Edit: that should be Solana
They are a pretty cool little tank. The protein skimmer actually works pretty well as long as you keep the water level relatively consistent. The light is a love/hate kinda thing. I like it The stand is far better than any other nano stand I've seen and uses better/thicker wood. I have no complaints except the light really warms the water up. I plan on adding a finnex clip on fan. The main return pump moves the water around pretty well. I also added a koralia #2 pump for some extra flow. HTH
I have this tank and love it...I have a few forums on Nano-reef I've been posting in and my BF started one on here for me. I'll include the links for you.
I do not like my light, don't get me wrong, I think it is enough light, just wish I had some sort of moonlights. My tank runs at about 87 degrees with the light dropped all the way down and glass top off, I have it raised all the way to the arm right now and it still runs at 81-82 degrees. The skimmer works great. ATO, could be bigger, I fill up both bottles every night (plus about 4 cups water), and have to clean the sponges/filter every night also or water doesn't flow well. Could have a bigger pump for flow, I'll be adding a 6025 from Tunze soon, chiller, and ACJR. Current could have made notches in the glass to hide the wires from the pumps since they come up and over the back glass.
I've had a Solana tank for over 4 years and love it. It has everything you need to keep a beautiful reef alive and thriving. I started with mh lights and switched to LEDs as the mh added too much heat. If you get LEDs, you might not need a chiller like I had to get. Also, do not use the glass top as it retains heat and you must keep it very clean so the light is not obstructed by the left over salt.
Go to bulkreefsupply.com and watch the video on how to make a mesh screen top. It's easy and the best option to keep fish in and let the light in as well.
