Solana tank owner thread.

I previously kept a crocea on the sandbed of a 21" deep tank with a 175w MH and it did very well. The clam was off to the side and the tank only had one bulb over the middle...

I've been out of the hobby for a while and just found this thread. These tanks are making me itch for a new set up. :o

I have three clams that I moving under a 150w HQI sunpod fixture. They love their 70w HQI in the 12gallon but now get a bigger home!

Well my Solana has just started cycling... 30 lbs of LR was added yesterday and the RKL was programmed and set up as well.
Plan to add 30 lbs of sand later this week when it is available from my friend's tank.

Some pics of the rockscape. It was from my friends sump and is pretty much covered in feather dusters.

Might rework the rockscape. Not sure if Im 100% satisfied with it.

Thanks. I like the shape of the rock-stack but I'm not sure if it has enough caves and holes for fish to hide in. Thats my major concern about it.
Its pretty sturdy though. Which is good - hated the random rockslides I had in my old 55g.

Might throw in a K2 for extra flow too - I have some dead spots on the sides of the tank (where the LR debris is gathering).

nirvana, good start. I like that you're using a BB setup. Nice fans as well.

Well I'm not going to go BB. Its just BB for now as I wait for sand - my friend from my local NJ reef club is upgrading their tank and I'm buying some sand off of them when they break down their 110g tank this weekend.
I plan on putting in a pistol shrimp and yasha goby so a sand bed is essential. Not a big fan of the BB look either - kind of plain.
Thanks on the fans. They are pretty quiet when they are on.

MedRed, I like your Aquascaping A lot.
But the wood rim just doesn't "Do it" for me.
It kind of defeats the purpose IMO.
But, To each his own...

Brand new to all of this. I've been reading these Solana threads for the past couple of weeks. I don't think I can resist any longer. Going to have to pick one up this weekend.....

Thanks True Blue. It was a form follows function decision for me. No more water dribbles, no fear of jumping jawfish, and a massive reduction in evaporation, and easier access in and out of the tank than the regular glass hood.

I actually haven't noticed that it looks different. That's probably because I have a few oceanic cubes that have a similar rim. I am debuting a new project soon that may or may not be rimless ;-)
