Im setting up a solana and just made a DIY lamp tree, I thought some people might be interested b/c this should help keep the clean look of the solana.
I used 2 pieces of 3/4 inch aluminum square tube and had them welded at a 90 deg angle. Ill post more pics when its all set up.

Looks great I did the same thing about 9 months ago. I ended up going with a mini stealth lumenarc. How does it look with the light on it? Updated pics?

tri pod rod there's a guy on here named stevietdrill he makes custom cups for the 9002 so they will fit in the back. he has a site called mediabaskets.com you can order from there...

You dont need to drop 150 + bucks on the Tunze Skimmer for this tank ... a modded maxijet 1200 will make the stock skimmer work well.

Alright does anyone Know a good skimmer to put outside the tank? I wana do a recirc cause i fell that the skimmer it comes with blows. Any ideas?

Heres some pics of my set up

Can you tell us about that dosing system you've got there?
What else is that in the third chamber - a phosban reactor?
Do you have an ato in there and where is the switch?

The dosing system is an aquamedic triple doser. I have bulk calcium, alkalinity and mag from bulkreefsupply. It doses daily and I have an ATO which is what you see there in the third chamber. It is the tunze osmolator.

I am setting up my Solana today and have three simple questions that I have not found answers in this thread.

I took the bio balls and charcoal packs out of the middle chamber, but do the bio balls and filter that holds them in stay in the skimmer? Is that was makes the bubbles?

What about the pad that filters the entrance to the skimmer from the tank, in or out?

I have a 100 watt heater that just fits in the recommended space between the skimmer and the chamber wall. Do you have to use the clips and suction cups to hold it in or just let in hang in the space. I can't see how it can go anywhere and has rubber caps on the top and bottom to prevent it touching the sides? The space is not wide enough for the suction cups to attach.

You can tell from these questions this is my first tank.

Thanks for any help.

a. According to Current they are used to reduce micro bubbles. They do not effect the operation of the protein skimmer. I removed mine after a couple of months and they were covered with detritus. I have not had a problem with micro bubbles after removing them. leaving them in is a nitrate factory!

What about the pad that filters the entrance to the skimmer from the tank, in or out?
a. I found that the pad in the prefilter caused a film to develope on the surface of the aquarium. After contacting Current support they said to remove the pad from the prefilter. I did this and resolved the problem. I guess you can leave it in and see if you experience the surface film problem. just be sure and clean it often. You can also leave the pad in chamber 2 at the top in. just be sure to clean it every week. Underneath that pad is where I would place any carbon and phosphate remover media.

a. The heater will hang there fine just be sure it is completely submersed.

Good Luck!
