OH, EZ can you please tell me what you did to fight AEFW's? I bought some corals off ebay from a guy in Cali (Reef Empire) and got horrible algae problems and AEFW's. It sucks...they aren't doing much damage yet...been blasting them with a long pipet and removing the ones that break free.

If it wasn't for bad luck this year, I woudn't have had luck at all..between BF's tank, we've had Red Bugs, AEFW's, Monti eating nudi's, sundial snails, and reg flat worms...

More than anything, I've lost stuff in my tank for no apparent reason...down to two fish, two shrimp, 1 clam, 2 emeralds. Still have great growth on coral so I can't complain too much.

Yep, my return pump has gone out. I just put together my Solana yesterday. Suggestions? Should I just replace the thing or what? I tried taking it apart, but I couldn't make sense of it. I know nothing about powerheads.

If I replace it, what pump do you all recommend? I need to get it tomorrow. This is just sad looking!

Also, what's the verdict on moonlights? I saw someone spoke about it earlier, but is there a general consensus on the way to go? I have the hanging silver fixture.

Thanks everyone!

I have one of these strip led moonlights screwed into the underside of the globe. It is a R2 Solutions Moonlight 11000 MC at Marine Depot.

Anyone use the new vortech mp20 on the solana? I am about to buy either the mp20 or mp40 but am not sure which one.

Does the MP20 upgrade to the MP40w, or the MP20w?

The only difference between the mp20 and mp40w is that the mp40 is wireless and has 3000gph vs the mp20 that has 2000gph.

If you change out the driver of the mp20 to the new mp40w then you have an mp40w. Everything else is the same.

I am not sure what the new koralias are as i thought they only worked with the koralia controller but i have a k1 and a k2 on a RK2 controller one at 30sec and the other at 40sec. seems to be working good so far.

I ordered a Solana tonight it should be here on Friday. :) I'm in the market for a 250w Sunpod and a Tunze 6025. Through reading this thread and others over heating is a concern. With the 250w Sunpod on there in a room thats ~70 in the summer ~60 in the winter is this going to be a big issue? I like the eggcrate top and I will probably end up doing that if there is a problem.

I keep my house at 70-73 degrees F. and my solana with the 150w MH disco ball 4" away from the water gets to about 80 degrees F. I think with a 250w MH you will need a chiller or a few fans.

I would disagree, it depends on what your actual house temp is vs what the thermostat says that is my experience my house is at 77-79 and my tank does not go over 81 and if you are truly keeping you house at 70 i do not think you will have a problem. You will probably just have to test it out.

edit: i do have the double azoo fans running all the time. My thermostat says 81 but the real temp in the house is 77-79.

I am still cycling my solana but with the stock skimmer am having a hard time tuning it correctly. Where should the rubber band be? Is the skimmer supposed to be kinda floating and tilted to the side? Is their supposed to be 90,000 micro bubbles in the display?

I am about to just burn this crappy skimmer and buy the tunze unless someone can tune me onto how this thing works.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I've been toying with different wavemeaking options. I really want to minimize the mechanical clutter in the tank, so I'm thinking my first choice would be a 3/4" Seaswirl. Is anyone using one? I've used them on other tanks and really like them, just wondering how it will clamp on--probably have to attach to plastic divider?

Any suggestions on how to plug the hole if I pull the locline out?

I would just use some aquamend on the hole i use the stuff to mount my frags just put some superglue gel on it and stuff it through the back side hole.

Solana34 - Alot of us are doing a SPS dominate tank....I know EZ probably has the nicest stuff. I've been getting frags from my BF's tank as things get too large in his and he does maintenance. So first frags from stuff went into my tank. I'm now getting to the point where things are growing together.

Here is my tank months ago labeled...got bored one night, I've had tremendous growth the last few months so the tank looks better now...I think this pic was taken early March/April.

Here's mine a few weeks back.

I just finished a mod to the 150W Sunpod by adding a 18in 18W T5 actinic in a cut down reflector on the front of the unit but it's not installed in this shot.

I'm in the second week of VSV dosing and trying Prodibio Biodigest. So far the watter is clear as crystal and carbon has been off line the whole time. will see how it goes.
