Not a problem...you should also check out nano-reef...search solana and you'll be able to find a vast amount of tanks that have been set up and have some really cool mods done too....

My next tank is the cardiff, it is the solana in a 24g with a curved front glass....should be sweet...they release them in a month or two...

nano-reef is also part of this site? I keep find ing new things on this stie all the time.
New tank sounds cool...you will need to post pics when you get it set up.

no nano-reef is not...it is www.nano-reef.com i know they don't like posting to other sites...but this one is upstanding for people with small/nano tanks...RC in my opinion is geared towards mid/large tanks, people with tanks over 55g...but that is my opinion and my opinion only....

I looked into that light and was excited about it coming out...but it took too long...I wanted that light fixture for the moon lights being built in and have friends who run larger versions of it on their big tanks and have been fairly happy with it. In February I got a 24" Maristar Fixture with 250w MH and 2 t-5 actinics. I run it with a 14k Phoenix bulb and not sure on the T-5's but have great coloration and growth.

I've been looking at various wavemaking devices and decided to try a Sea Swirl. I put on a 1/2" Sea Swirl running on the return pump which is a Quiet One 2200 (581 gph). AMAZING flow!! I'm very happy with it, but wondering if I may have to throttle it down just a little as it's blown all the sand out of the front corners.

I was running a Rio Hyperflow 12 (750 gph) on the stock locline return. Even though the Quiet One 2200 is rated at less gph, it actually seems to produce more. I had to leave the hole from the locline open--when I plugged it the tank almost overflowed---for some reason, the overflow could keep up with the Rio, but not the QO 2200. Any idea why that would be?

Back to the screen top questions i too used the window screen frame. For the mesh i used a clear/white lufa sponge that i took apart and stretched. Very small holes and very thin so that it does not block light. I did post some pics of it awhile back. I have not had any rusting issues thus far.

Just added a VorTech MP40 to my solana here are some videos of the wave action.

SPS Polyp movement: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NtguWT1A55Y

Enjoy,

Hey Mitch thats wicked man!!!!

Sorry if I missed it, but what setting do you have the Vortech on?

I have to "down-size" in an upcoming move, and have been thinking nano-ish type tank....I think you might have sold me knowing a MP40 can work so well on these things!

EDIT: NM, I found it...pulse mode, via the link someone posted above.

Anyone having nitrate problems because of the stock skimmer underperforming?

I would like to know who has the most fish and stock skimmer with no nitrates...?

I want to get a pair of clownfish, pair of helfiki firefish, mandarin, and maybe a 50cent peice sized hippo tang and solar wrasse.

On another note, I am having heat issues and keep putting the light up higher and higher but the temps don't seem to go down. I was wondeirng if anyone has added a nano chiller to the tank? I really don't want to run fans but if an "in tank" nano chiller will keep the temp. down a full degree F. then that is all I want.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

-Matthew

I have a similar question as above.

Am I the only one dying to have a school of chromis in my tank? Would a percula, say 5 chromis, and a banggai be considered out of the question?

It shouldn't be. As long as they are small and when the time comes that they get to big you bring them back to the LFS then more the merrier.

I used to have a via-aqua 18g tank with an algae blenny, big tomato clown, dwarf angel, and green mandarin without any nitrate problems. All I had for filtration was a HOB filter and did bi weekly water changes.

Anyone else?

Another new Solana

Another new Solana

Here’s the “before” picture of my new Solana about 5 days after adding water and a couple days after the live rock was added. I just added a small cleanup crew of snails and hermit crabs but will be waiting a few more days before adding any other livestock. Kinda boring right now, but hopefully in 6 months, the "after" picture will be worthy of comparison to some of the nice established Nano tanks I've seen in this forum. I particularly like DailyDriven911's car aghh, I mean tank. Well both actually.

I am still using the standard skimmer but it is a PITA. I tweak it twice daily and each time I check it is either high and dry or overflowing. Maybe it will settle in as the tank ages but to allow for a modest bio-load and SPS, I think I need a skimmer that has a greater capacity than the standard skimmer. So I ordered a Tunze skimmer. It should be here by the end of the week. I’ll post pics once I figure out how to get it working with the Solana.

I live in Seattle so I have no temp problems this time of the year. I did see the tank temp edge up over 80 with the 150MH Dome light on this evening, so I cracked open the nearby window (it was proaby 60 degrees outside) and I just checked 20 mins later and it was at 79.2.

I'm planning on installing a real ATO system in the next week or two and getting the 2x18" T5 from Nova Supreme to supplement the stock 150MH. I'm hoping that light will let me grow chaeto in the little sump in back and also supplement the MH light for corals. Does anyone else have this lighting configuration?

not sure what you mean my an "in tank" but I'm using a JBJ mini on mine on a closed loop. I run an Ice Probe chiller on my Zero Edge, but even that's not submersible--it fits into the tank through a bulkhead.

im about to set up the same tank. I found a great deal on a 30inch sunpod... would that be too big for the tank. I know the tanks only 22 wide. Does anyone else have that big of a light over their tank?

At one point I had 10 fish in my tank and still had 0 nitrates...make sure you have enough bio filtration and do regular water changes....I do 5 gallons a week to make things easy and to keep things from getting too bad.

I was running a current 1/15 chiller and it did the job...need to change out the return pump if you run the chiller inline, the standard pump is not strong enough to keep the chiller from cycling ON|OFF.
