I have a bland appearing solar wrasse (head not too yellow, body not too green). Is it a female or just a bland appearing solar wrasse? :lol2:

Steve,

Thanks for trying. Unfortunately my lights are out now and the wrasse is hiding out, i'll work on getting that photo though.
I really would like to know if there is gender variation in appearance because then i'd likely buy a brightly colored companion!

Here's a partial picture of my solar wrasse...

wouldn't let me upload the whole picture which was 1.4MB

how does everyone upload such nice pictures with the file size limitations?

I bought it as a juvenile (~2-3 inches) over a year ago, it has since grown to near adult size (4-5 inches) and is now the dominant fairy wrasse in the tank, though i only have a longfin as it's competitor.
When you say submale, do you mean sexually dimorphic, in the process of becoming a male?
Is there a difference between male and female solar wrasses- i.e. are the males more brightly colored?
