some advice

Looks like for now the macro lens is out. My wife and I are going to see the Rose Parade for new years. Can't spend the extra money right now.
But now my questions. Want to try and get some decent shots. At this point all I know is we have reserved seating near the beginning of the parade. My camera is a D50 Nikon. Lens I have the 28-80 Nikon and Quantary 55-200. Will would think using the 55-200 for most of my shots would give me the best flexibility. Any suggestions on that.

Also should I have any filters with me. Don't have any right now but could probably spring for some if I need them.

Any other suggestion for taking this type of pic would be appreciated.

The parade starts early morning and last several hours. I'm sure the light will change throughout the parade. Also have no idea wether sun will be in my face or behind we or what
Starts 8am Pacific time
