I have had my tank going since last June (bout 10 months now)
Reef crystals mixed with RODI water
Went from generic 20k MH 400watt to a XM 10k 400 watt for growth reasons one week ago. Also have 2 96watt PC actinics.
SG 1.026 hydrometer
amonia 0ppm
nitrite 0ppm
nitrate 5ppm
phosphate undetectable .03 -.05ppm ?
Alkalinity 2.8-3.2 Meq
Calcium 450
Mag - don't know
Fro the above, I understand my alkalinity should be at about 5 meq. I also know that I should know what my magnesium levels are.
Things that are doing good. Not growing fast at all by any means, but doing good.
Xenia (even though someone keeps eating them to nubs) high to low light level, they don't care.
Frog spawn - mid light level
Pipe organ - mid to low light level
zoanthids - High to low light levels
bubble coral - mid light level
yellow turbinaria -mid light level
green start polyps - mid/high light level
candy canes - mid light level
Toadstool lether - mid/low light level
Things that are not doing good / dying or dead.
Purple digitada (broke it and it took 2 months to die) High light level
Orange/tan capricornia, just about dead - mid/high light level
Torch now receding from three heads, down to just about one. Right next to Frog spawn. Mid light level
Nothing in the tank grows fast AT ALL. I wonder how people can frag corals out so frequently. Theirs must grow at a tremendous rate compared to mine. I don't know why my torch is dying. It sucks cause it is one of my favorites.
I guess I don't expect too much help as I know I need to know my Mg levels and my Alk needs to be higher, but I would think either all my corals would be doing either bad or good. I would say some are doing good, but they just grow SO slowly...
Any advice to get the corals to grow? More importantly, can I save my torch and why is the turbinaria ok but the other SPS bit the dust?
