Some equipment advice

Hello all. My new tank will be here at the end of the month and I was hoping that you guys could give me a bit of guidance on what type of equipment to buy. The tank is an 85 gallon RR bowfront. Is there a controller that you can use any brand of powerhead on? Also I was considering the Quiet One 3000 for my sump. What I really need help on is figuring out how much flow I need. Im going to have fish, LR, LS, LPS and softies. Im going with my Ice Cap 48" retro kit and would really like to have a sump similar to commonstranger's. I like the idea and benefit of a refugium. If you happen to have any equipment for sale or trade that you think would be a good fit for the new system, then by all means please PM me.

I think Poolkeeper1 on here can build you whatever also...not positive. Probably some other folks too. Or DIY out of a glass tank.

I would not adviced that quietone pump. I had a 4000 unit. they create alot of heat. Best pump i have every owned has been the mag 9.5 and the external pump for my loop which is a gen x.

QO's run cooler than my mags..9.5 adds ALOT of heat..strange you got opposite Pikcup. Mag 9.5 added several degrees..QO 6000 did not add any noticeable heat.

Karl,

I have a sump and QO 300 if your interested. PM me if you are. I also have a mag 9.5, but that is overkill of an 85. I also ahve a Panworld 100PX-X if you want external.

Carl I have spoken with you about the pump and sump. The pump has always worked well for me. I believe it is the third one I have had and all were quiet and I did not see a temp increase. The sump I would either let Ocea build or I would build it myself. Id say we could do a pretty good job on it. Just let me know if your interested. Wish you the best on the tank need any help let me know.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I definantly want to set this one up right. Its kinda my final frontier. Ive gotta get the measurements in the stand and Im still trying to figure out how much flow Im gonna need. Is there any type of formula I can use to calc. approx. how much movement that Im gonna need?

I would bypass all those return pumps and use a eheim 1260. By far the best return pump I have ever used. If you need more flow use the 1262 but it puts out a more heat. They are virtually silent when compared to the quiet ones and Mags. I replaced my mag 9.5 with the eheim 1260 and glad that I did.

Mitch has them in stock up at fishey business in bowling green pretty much identically priced to the mail order people. He has relatively good pricing on all his dry goods compared to the other 3 LFS plus you can check out his coral selection.

By far the best return pump I have ever used. I have only cleaned it once in 4.5 years and the time that I did it didn't really need it but I already had it apart.
