Hi Guys,

How are you? I hope great:) My name is Bob, and i am a new club membewr (first meeting was the seahorses and missed the Barbecue due to work.)

Tonight I put the freshwater into my 75 gallon and ran the plumbing. I have an oiverflow (MRC) and an Iwaki pump. I have three things I could use help with. please and if you don't mind:

1) I have a very, very slight leak where the bulkhead goes to the pump. The leak is not from the bulkhead itself, but from a piece that is glues into the inside of the threaded external piece. Is there a way to stop this leak or do I need to buy a new bulkhead?

2) I remember someone mentioning that, since my tank is an Oceanic, that someone custom makes a fitting that muffles or stops the every few second suctiopn noise from the overflow. Can someone tell me more about that?

3) I ahve a bag of pretty old salt someone gave me. I was thinking of using it the first time I put salt in the tank. Is there a shelf life on salt (the bag was open and may have sucked a bunch of humidity out of the air.

Thx for all of the help:)

Hi Bob,
Your bulkhead probably needs to be replaced. Slip fittings are not east to seperate for regluing, and regluing probably wouldn't seal it anyway, now that it's already been cured.
When you glue PVC, it's important to twist the pipe in the fitting to spread the cement. Sounds like you didn't twist it enough.

To stop the noise, look into "Durso Stand Pipe" or "Stockman Mod(ification)"

I don't trust old salt in an open bag. Salt attracts water, and for the cost of a new bag (or bucket) I don't see it as worth the possible problems.
