Some new corals

Picked up a couple of nice Montipora this afternoon. Got a free Goniopora out of the deal as well as a rather sickly Goniopra that I'm going to try and coax back to life.

The M. peltiformis should lighten up a little and the polyps are neon blue. It's becoming a fairly common piece, but still one of my favorites. The pictures don't do this one any justice at all.

The blue M. danae could be a really nice piece (possible Superman). The base color is a purple-blue with a brighter blue on the tips, along with deep, deep red/maroon polyps. You can see in some of the pictures that the polyps on the growth edges are bright red, and the polyps on the main body of the piece have some red on them as well. Hopefully under better lighting (SM montis like lots of light!) I can bring out the color this piece really should be.

I'll be snapping some pictures of the Goniopora (both pieces) once they polyp out. The sickly one is going to be a pet project of mine! Gonis are my favorite coral, bar none, and I've had success with them in the past. Hopefully these will continue the tradition!

Yep, Lisa did a top-notch professional packing job. You may want to mention to the boss that the bags are really cheap/thin though. Even double-bagged (with the extra piece on the coral) in a styro, a couple of them had puncture holes by the time we got home. The corals themselves are doing fine...

Sickly Goniopora may not make it. There was a LOT of gunk I had to wash off that was decaying tissue....the bag was opaque and stinky by the time I got home. It's all been cleaned off and the coral is in the tank...no polyp extension at all yet, and very little tissue left, so we'll see. Poor guy might be too far gone, but I'm not going to give up hope!

told him about the bags when i first started useing this new set of bags but he said he can't choose what brand just the size from his wholesaler:worried2:

I can't imagine he's getting a better deal from a wholesaler than from a lot of other places he could get them. They really do stink...they're way too thin for corals and any fish with sharp spines. They look like they're maybe 1 mil-1.5 mil thick. I normally double and triple bag (as needed) with 2.5-3 mil bags.

Oh well, all you can do is make the suggestion...
