some new pics and poll

After the cold snap which killed my corals and caused a bacterial outbreak that took out some of my fish a few months ago, I finally have things looking semi decent, albeit bare :-(.

on to the poll,
I've decided to redo the sps in the tank against my better judgment but I want something different. I'm thinking a montipora/pocillopora/seriatopora dominated display. What you guys think? Go acro free? Or is it blasphemy to have a sps tank without stags :-P?

I think there are enough varieties that you could easily fill a tank with those and have it look really nice. Go for it.

Dude,do not fear your failures. You learn from every mistake and you will be better, smarter and more able to appreciate your final goal at the end of the game.I say grow acroporas and every other sensitive coral that you can get your hands on.Aim high and dial in some fail safes for everything you put onto your reef. And add nothing from a bottle except ALK,Mg and cal

hehe so one vote each so far. Btw thanks Dan, I appreciate your confidence in me. There are some encrusting acro bases still alive in the tank, so i'm going to end up with acros again like it or not lol. I don't know if I could have prevented what happened really. The only thing I can think of would be to have a system that regulates the temperature of the room itself by opening and closing the windows on powered hinges. It can be done using technology borrowed from greenhouses, but it would probably cost more than the entire aquarium is worth. I could try keeping a heater behind the false wall in my tank, but the insulating properties of acrylic would likely render it useless. I could keep one in the tank but that's just fugly lol. At any rate, the return pump has run fine ever since. I'm still not sure what happened that night.

I like your selection, keeping things with higher tolerances is always a good idea and confidence builder as the system gets perfected. Dan is right back up for everything! Trading Aesthetics for function greatly increases the risk. My vote would be keep working on the system. Anyone can buy nice corals, the beauty of the hobby is being able to keep them, grow them, and color them up, and finally trading them! Long term success can be much easier with a bit of "fugly".

lol thanks, but it's not really my abilities I'm worried about, it's my luck :-p. I'm thinking all montis because nobody does it :-D!

Sorry I thought the concern was you loosing another system, your post sounded like you were looking for something easy to do. My apologies. But if your looking for luck I'd vote on a big rabbits foot on top or maybe a big horseshoe on the stand. That would be different.
