Another way to find cool stuff is to support your independent LFS. They get good press when you score stuff from them. :)

I picked up a couple of 620s from Drs F&S for 34.99 each about a week ago... they're working pretty well. I like the 820s as well, mine did stir up quite a bit of sand, it was about 10 inches above the sand bed however.
It does reach this equilibrium where the sand just settles in a fixed spot.

I was told by somebody that it's more worthwhile to spend the money and energy on circ pumps rather than return pumps and it's proven to work for me so far.
