Some of my latest photography...

I shot all of these with my Nikon D40, and the darker images were shot with an ISO of 800. Editing was finished in Photoshop 7 and then uploaded to Deviant Art and Flickr. Let me know what you think!

If there are any other artists in here, feel free to add me to your watch list on DeviantArt.com... Here's the link to my personal gallery on there if you're interested.

nice pics - but we want reef pics!!!! Very cool lighting effects on the second to last pic.

Thanks guys! I'm just starting to take this photography thing seriously, so I'm looking for as much input and suggestions from fellow photographers as I can get. The camera I'm using is the D40 I got off from Misled earlier this year... and I love it!

What lense did you use?
I have:
Nikon D40 Digital SLR
Nikon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED II AF-S DX lens
Quantaray 18-200 mm DC 3.5-6.3 Lens f/Nikon DSLR -- cheap lens but I love it..
Wireless remote
UV lense
Regular Tripod

I've got the same setup as yours, minus the remote. I've also got a 55-200 1:4-5.6 with a broken AF, so I don't use that one too much... I'm wanting to get a nice wide angle lens and macro lens this Christmas, we'll see

Hey Mark. Sorry it took me so long to get to this, but I wanted to take my time and I've been putting the tank in the lobby together and working all day today. Personally, I like the last 4 of the second set of pics the best.

The one with the doll cutouts is great. I like how it shows history.
The bottom of the steps also. Very dark and shows the age.
The outside window is good also.I like how the greenery shows up.

Now the B&W of the window from the inside I like also. I left this for last because I want you to look at it and go back to some of the others. The DOF of on this is great. On some of the others, not so much. If you intended to do it that way, you can, but blur out the backround some more. I don't think it would work well on the other inside pic though. It looks like the POF was the jam on the right.

Keep it up. I also agree with using the 55-200. It will get you used to doing some manual focusing which is best if you were to do your tank.

Keep working. Take your camera where ever you go. You never know what you'll see.

Thanks for the detailed response, Jesse! I posted these for exactly that reason, to get the feedback and tips from more experienced photographers, so thank you...

The pictures above are in order, from the first one I worked on, to the latest, and looking back at them, I can see the difference in them as I got more into the hang of using Photoshop again. The pics with the door jambs were intended to be focused on the jambs, but I think if I were to crop them a little differently and apply the changes you suggested, they would work better.

The lens I'm looking into now is a Nikon Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 for the shallow DOF and I've heard some good things about it. Also, since I'm wanting to start playing with HDRI, I'd love to get a remote for the camera so there won't be any issues with camera movement, even though Photoshop CS3 has the auto-align feature built-in. I'll let you know when I get some more pictures online from the new locations, Jesse, so I can get your impressions on them.
