Hi to all,

Do you have any idea on what's happening in my hammer coral? See attached file.

Other corals are doing fine except for my hammer coral which we purchased the other day. Water parameters are also good.

Thanks! :D

It's receding, most likely because you have it pressing up against a rock when it opens up. You need to put it into an area where every head has space to open up, it would need moderate flow to make sure the receded part doesn't get brown jelly and take out the colony.

Thanks for the reply Organism! :)

However I just put the stony part of the hammer between the rocks so it will stuck, do you really think that's the possible reason? and one more thing sometimes it's getting thick I'm not sure how do you called this but take a look again on the attached picture. It's form gets thicker/fat and then goes back to normal after 1-3 mins. And yes it has moderate water flow.

You didn't leave enough space for the hammer to open up, so the flesh is being torn up on the rocks when it tries to open. Picture your ceiling being covered in razor blades and then lowered to 6" over your face while you're asleep, it's basically that. You can either raise the ceiling by moving it somewhere with nothing near the heads or lose the hammer.

I see, thanks for the info. As of now we already changed the location of our hammer at the bottom area and continuing to monitor it's behavior. Do you think other heads that are missing will grow again?

Organism is 100% correct. Hammers want to be in the sand level for the most part and open space around them. Especially the wall type. They also like low flow mod light.

Thanks Dkuhlmann.

Here's the update of my Hammer as of now guys (see attached pic).

It seems to me that he's doing fine since I've put him in the sand unlike yesterday but not sure if it has some kind of disease or it's just growing new heads? what do you think guys?

That's brown jelly and will eat the rest of the head, you need to blast it off by putting it in front of a powerhead and then give it moderate flow to keep it from spreading. If it pops up just put it in front of a powerhead to remove it. If you have iodine or Revive then a dip would be a great idea as well.

I'd dip it in iodine every day for 30 min until the disease stops. You can still save the hammer if you take prompt action.

Hello Guys!

Just to give you an update on what happened on our Hammer. So the moment we knew that it was a brown jelly disease we immediately remove the bacteria on the infected area using an unused clean tooth brush and scrubbed it gently so it won't damage the head.

And so far it looks great (see attached pictures). However, we're wondering if the infected part will grow new polyps? What do you think guys? If it's possible is there anything we need to do to make the polyps grow faster or make it more healthier so it won't happen again?

In your second picture, the one head that has it's mouth showing suggest that it's getting too much flow. Do you see how sharp the skeletal structure is? Having the delicate tentacles pushed up against it isn't very good and can lead to trouble.

Find a spot where it's just swaying gently back and forth.

Thanks for that info TangingOut, we put the coral on the spot where it can get too much water flow to help blowing out the disease.
