i set up this tank 3 years ago and got a male and a female pair . i was told that they are kudos. could be wrong. anyways the are housed in a ten gallon tank with a variety of shrimp that release babies every so often for the seahorses to gobble up. in the begining i tried to add various corals but the tank size and lack of a skimmer prevented anything from lasting long. i do water changes every month and thats it. i feed em frozen mysis every day but sometime i strave them for a weekend to help with water quality. they do fine during this time as i have a lot of pods in this tank and they hunt them in between feedings.
THE TEN GALLON TANK
i use macro for nitrate absorption and a sm hang on with chemi pure. thats it. keep temp a 76f

i'm in the process of setting up a 40tall for SH and ging very minimalistic, canister filter and a powerhead along with a lot of macro in it.
you mention that you have macro algae to help with nitrates but i see only a few sprigs in those pics.... is that it or is there more???

in the three years that you have had them, have your pair ever reproduced?? and what kind are they????
thanks,, lisa

yeah the macro that i had in there was recently attacked by predators from a shipment of other macro. these pest consume macro and in a contained setting they eat the macro till its gone. still hve some in there and dont want to add anymore so when its all gone they starve out . they have reproduced in the past.
so anyway once the macro is all gone ill wait a few weeks then add more.

Hey reefD!

Have you had the seahorses for 3 years or did you just add them to this tank?

10 gallon is very small for a pair of seahorse. I would recommend a minimum of a 29 gallon for the pair.

Also, I think I saw a cleaner shrimp in there? They usually stress the seahorses out by constantly trying to clean them.

You say that they reproduced in the past. The best way to tell if they are Kuda is by the fry. Kudas have extremely tiny fry. They're nicknamed the "unraisable fry." Not impossible, but definitely not easy.

Best of luck with these guys! They're a blast!

I agree that this is a very "unorthodox way" of housing these horses and should not be recommended .

I have quite a bit of experience with a number of seahorse species and my question is why you are opposed to providing your seahorses with a larger more appropriate size tank where they have the space needed rather than forcing them to live in such cramped conditions?

Maybe he is in college and can only have a 10 gallon tank. or he is such an addict that he has so many other tanks setup that he has no more floor space for more...

They do look a little cramped in there dude!
