I noticed few SPS turns dull colors, not bleaching..

Change water 5 gal every weekend.
Biocube 29 for 2 years with AISOL. Blue

1025
Cal 425
Alk 9.6
Mg 1480-1500
Phos 0.00 (Hanna)
Nitrate 0.02

I'm a bit fighting with hair alage , it's now turning to brown...

I wonder if high MG harm some SPS?

My rose milli, red planet, peralberry milli turns ugly color but other SPS is doing okay but notice a bit losing color too..

It's not bleaching..

I'm out of clue...

Thanks

Ahh sounds familiar....

Brown HA is a sign of low nitrates but high phosphates.... It is leaching from somewhere and being consumed before it reaches levels that can be tested...

The dull colors are because of the low nitrates... Once I got my nitrates to around 1-2ppm consistently, my growth took off. Color takes about 7+ months to come back...

Foe me it was syphoning the gravel regularly and I beat the HA. Then heavy feeding and it all took off...

MHG- what brand nitrate test kit do you using?

My mistake. It's 2ppm of nitrate by salfiert,

I'm still puzzling with Hanna checker phos reads at 0.00

Just added BRS GFO that I don't use for a year.

I reduced the amount of high peak 4 hrs to 2hr 30min To reducing algae.

I feed every other day.

Thanks

Seems like same problem I'm having. Same brown algae. How did it work out?
I'm taking my skimmer cup off for a couple days. I think my nitrate is too low. PO4 is usually 0-.03
Blue corals look great. Green slimer looks normal but some other greens are dull and many corals getting lighter. Some corals grow normal and some barely at all.
I've tried so many feeding routines its crazy and none seem to work.

I do have AEFW but it's more than that. The algae and corals like Mystic sunset and leng sy and other Acros that don't have any worms and the corals are getting lighter makes me believe there is more of an issue than just the AEFW.

I am using a small amount of biopellets.. about 200ml in a 225. Only been running those for a few weeks but use Prodibo digest. Stopped Bio tim when I started the pellets.
I run HC GFO,ROX carbon, small fuge and Vertex alpha 250. Maybe pulling too much out of the water.

I am battling the exact same issue. I believe the above post. I think something happens when there are no detectable No3 and other things are providing just enough Po4 to feed this brown turf algae. Just a question, can everyone state the age of there system. I noticed in my tank with a much older set of rocks and sand I don't get any of this brown hair algae. But my DT is only 6 months old and I'm getting quite a bit of this stuff. My tank is currently fishless as of 3 days ago and I am worried about it getting out of control as my tangs were eating the heck out of this stuff.

Yeah, so many variables it's mind boggling. The guy that runs Ultimate corals says he turns off skimmer periodically. So it's worth a try. I feel like I feed enough as it is so not really wanted to just start dumping more food in.
My tank was started last Oct. so hopefully it will get better as it gets older.
