Some Stock help...

gREEF stricken

New member
Well I'm finally done scaping my 90gal and have finally rid myself of that pesky Domino Damsel...I wanna slowly start stocking...at this point just a cleaner crew, an Arrow crab("Harvard"), a Yellow Watchman("Grover") and a LMB named "Nibbler"

set on a pair of GSM Clowns and BTA or 2. Also really focused on cave scaping with hopes of keeping a Snowflake Moray(unsure of reef compatibility)...any other suggestions??

thanks

The maroons can be really aggressive so you should be really careful about what you put with them. There are mixed results about the snowflake being reef safe my best guess would be that your clean up crew would be lunch. I would do maybe a kole tang or a trio of anthias.

Damn, that's a drag...really want an eel and though the snowflake was a less aggressive "model"

If you want the eel I would try it. Yeah my LFS had a maroon in a tank with a panther grouper and the maroon bullied the grouper until he finally got rid of it.

Damn. I really love the color patterns of that particular clown but I'm more concerned with keep ability and harmony than Aesthetics. Basically, my wife and I have developed a decent fish breeding skills, and we wanted to try our hand at clown fish. There's something rewarding about producing a marketable product from your hobby that allows you to help pay for that hobby. And we have enjoyed the process of breeding fish. Any recommendations on a different variety of clown that would fit our needs?

An adult snowflake will eat clownfish. Not when they're small and probably not for a while. Snowflakes are nice fish, but when they reach sexual maturity, their teeth change and they can become very aggressive toward tankmates. They can and will eat fish that are many times bigger than you would think (i.e., angels and rabbit fish) by tying their body in knots around the bigger prey. It's interesting behavior, but not something you'd wish to see happen to another pet fish.

I suspect that people don't know this because, sadly, most snowflakes die from other causes (usually escape) long before they reach maturity.

Have you looked at the dwarf golden moray eels? They are reef/fish safe from what I've read.

Grrrrr...guess I'll hold off. I seriously fear if that beautiful pet ribbon monster DOES eat either of my wife's beloved ground dwellers she'll heartbroken so I guess I'll just skip the SME...man nature can be a witch!!

If you really want an eel go with this:

The dwarf golden moray. It's reef safe and small.

As for the clowns I'd go with standard ocellaris, black and white, snowflake (clowns, not eel), or black ice.

For other fish you could try a yellow, purple, or kole tang, and a pistol shrimp for your prawn goby.

NOW I'm on da same page!!! Ironic I spend my days and nights taking CARE of my fish but today I will spend the day throwing ornate pieces of metal, feathers and fur to pick trout out and take pictures of 'em. C&R of course but an odd juxtaposition at best...:)

FISH ON...then off
